Ernest Eugene Orlando - Birth 1888
Ernest Eugene Orlando - Birth 1888
From 1830 to 1962 the so-called European civil status registers were established in two copies according to the metropolitan rule. At the time of Algeria's accession to independence, these registers remained in Algeria where they are kept. The Department of Foreign Affairs undertook, between 1967 and 1972, microfilm reproduction of part of these records, about two-thirds. Some municipalities are totally missing and others are incomplete. It is these microfilms that have been digitized. On the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, it was established in 2003 an alphabetical database of acts from 1830 to 1904, with names and surnames, which facilitates access to digitized images.

Evolution of a ONS & Surname Research (Guild of ONS)
Evolution of a ONS & Surname Research (Guild of ONS)
A presentation similar to this one has been devised and presented by Julie Goucher since 2015. It has been given to a number of genealogical and family history societies, both in the United States and the UK.

As I never miss an opportunity to talk about my study, I agreed to produce a version of the presentation for the Guild of One-Name Studies as a way of demonstrating that we are indeed global as an organisation, both in terms of global members and global studies.

A copy of the presentation and the accompanying syllabus can also be found on the Guild of One-Name Studies website.

Copyright of both the presentation and the syllabus remains with Julie Goucher
